Scrum Alliance is a professional organization dedicated to promoting Scrum and to the training and certification of agile professionals. It was founded in 2002 by Ken Schwaber, Mike Cohn, and Esther Derby, and has been one of the most influential organizations in the international expansion of Scrum.

Its activity has focused especially on training and certifications for people who work with Scrum and agility.

Origin

Scrum Alliance was founded in 2002, at a time when Scrum was beginning to establish itself as a reference point within the agile movement. Ken Schwaber had presented Scrum as applied to software development at OOPSLA in 1995, and the Agile Manifesto had been published in 2001. In that context, Scrum Alliance helped structure training, community, and certification around Scrum.

The organization is known for credentials such as Certified ScrumMaster (CSM), as well as other paths related to roles, professional practice, and agile leadership.
